A standard emissions reduction option, catalysts are substances that aid or speed up a chemical reaction while remaining unchanged themselves. This allows them to convert unwanted emissions constituents to harmless compounds as the emissions leave the engine.
Catalysts may work in partnership with a reagent to create the chemical reactions needed. Reagents are chemical compounds that are used to create chemical reactions. In this case, a reagent is introduced to eliminate or reduce certain emissions through chemical processes.
